What is the welding technology program?

The welding technology program prepares students for careers in the welding industry. These programs typically cover a wide range of topics, including:

  • Welding safety
  • Welding symbols and blueprints
  • Welding techniques (e.g., shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, flux cored arc welding)
  • Welding metallurgy
  • Welding inspection and testing

The Palo Alto College Welding Technology program is designed to be affordable and accessible to students of all backgrounds. The program offers day and evening classes, making them a good option for working adults and students with other commitments.

In addition to academic coursework, the program provides hands-on training in a welding lab. This helps students to gain the practical skills they need to succeed in the workplace.

Why choose welding technology?

Job prospects: Welders are in high demand in various industries, including construction, manufacturing, and transportation. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment of welders will grow 8% from 2020 to 2030, faster than the average for all occupations.

Good pay: Welders earn a good living. The median annual wage for welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers was $50,090 in May 2021.

Job satisfaction: Welders report high levels of job satisfaction. They enjoy working with their hands and seeing the results of their work.

Affordable education: Community college welding technology programs are relatively affordable. This can be a major advantage for students trying to save money on their education.
