Building with Biology. Students will be trained on implementing hands-on activities with youth and adults during the Girl Scouts STEM Expo (Sept. 15th), Women Breaking Thru (Oct 12th), Monster Tech (Oct 19th), CORE4STEM Family Day (Nov 3rd), STEM Career Day (Nov 9th) and the STEM Symposium (Dec 7th). Minimum participation is 2 events. Deadline: open until filled. Tiger 1 Electric Car Club Project. A student will be selected by the club faculty sponsors to assist the club and to ensure team competes at the Alamo City Electrathon in May 2019. Student will communicate activities, goals and deadlines to members while serving as a student liaison and spokesperson for the club. Deadline: open until filled. STEM After School Clubs. This program is a collaboration with Bowden Academy (5th – 8th grades) and the college’s Business Information Solutions and Natural Science Departments. Commitment will be 2 afternoons per week for 6 weeks minimum. College students will be compensated for their training and time committed to assist in hands-on activities in science. Deadline to apply: October 30th, 2018 Student Engagement Grant (SEG). The informal science learning (ISL) program provides engagement in real-world activities and opportunities to your 21st century skills as they address real-world challenges and problems. The Science in Action program is a citizen science initiative that will engage SPC students in activities at the community gardens for locations, such as the Garcia Street Urban Farm, Ella Austin Community Center, Sutton Oaks Apartment Complex and the Eastside Community Garden. Student Research Assistants (SRA) – conduct educational research studies using basic statistical analysis tools. Learn to create databases using Microsoft Excel; categorize data; evaluate data to find trends and develop logic arguments. Gain valuable experience in determining the best way to display different types of information visually using Excel.
