What is the Government/Political Science Pre-Major?
The Government/Political Science pre-major is designed to provide students with a broad examination of political science and federal and state government. The courses are approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and contain material and activities that lead students to produce the THECB learning outcomes for those courses. Students who wish to major in government or political science or who may be desiring careers in public administration or law should consider a government pre-major.
What will I learn?
Government/Political Science classes explore the discipline of political science; the origin, development, structure, and responsibilities of U.S. state and national governments; citizens’ rights and responsibilities, the political parties, and the political cultures within the United States; and the dynamics and consequences of public policy decisions.
What can I do with this course of study?
Transfer to the government or political science programs in Texas public universities.
What's special about the program?
The curriculum of the Government/Political Science courses at St. Philip’s College reflects the learning outcomes expected by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
