SPC Alumnus Christopher Montoya Unveils Fine Arts Mural
Local artist Christopher Montoya is known for his electric artwork seen around the City of San Antonio. His most popular include large murals of Selena Quintanilla, the San Antonio Spurs, and Cesar Chavez.
The self-taught artist is a graduate of Brackenridge High School. Montoya went on to enroll in the art program at St. Philip’s College where he claims he took his very first art class.
“It has been about seven years since I step foot in St. Philip’s College… It is a very humbling and community-oriented school, I really enjoyed my time here,” said Montoya.
The mural is a permanent addition to the Watson Fine Arts Center. His presentation featured many of the work that contributed to his journey to success and recognition in the San Antonio community.
“I am glad that we were a part of his journey,” said St. Philip’s College President, Dr. Loston.
The mural is a combination of brush paint and spray paint stencil work. “I am very grateful to be a part of this and to have left a piece of me and my work here,” says Montoya, adding that he hopes the mural “gives a little bit more life to the building.”
