Graduate Spotlight : Alayna Morgado
November 25, 2024
This December, Alayna Morgado will walk across the stage at the St. Philip’s College 151st Commencement Ceremony to receive her degree in Respiratory Care Technology. For her, it is a celebration of academic achievement and a symbol of everything she has overcome.
Alayna grew up blocks away from St. Philip’s College. As a child, she would pass the campus often, watching it grow from a small collection of buildings into the vibrant institution it is today. The sight of the college had always been a constant in her life, a landmark that would one day play a pivotal role in her journey. Choosing St. Philip’s as her academic home felt natural, and she quickly immersed herself in campus life, serving as President of the Student Government Association.
Her greatest challenge came in late 2020 when she was hospitalized with double COVID-19 pneumonia, placed in a medically induced coma, and spent 70 days in intensive recovery. Through rehabilitation, she regained basic skills and a renewed appreciation for life.
Now a certified respiratory care practitioner, she is pursuing a second associate degree in health information technology with aspirations of becoming a hospital administrator. Her goal is to help others navigate the complex healthcare system, providing them with the care and support they need.
Congratulations Alayna!
