Graduate Spotlight : Lizeth Garcia-Hernandez
November 15, 2024
Lizeth Garcia-Hernandez, St. Philip’s College 2024–2025 Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) Leader-in-Residence, will graduate in December with an Associate of Arts majoring in Business Management.
Lizeth balances multiple responsibilities; she works as a Certified Peer Advisor in the Welcome Center and excels academically. Fluent in Spanish, Lizeth often assists in the Welcome Center by explaining the enrollment process and helping to bridge language gaps for many prospective students.
She was born in Mexico and moved to Texas in January 2022 for educational opportunities. “I knew there was a lot of potential in business here,” she said. Starting with limited English skills, she pursued her General Education Diploma (GED) in August 2022 and successfully earned it by December 2023.
She began classes at SPC in January 2023, drawn to the campus for its proximity to her home and its resources. “I love the library spaces—they’re quiet, comfortable, and perfect for studying,” she said. The campus’s dual designation as a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) and a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) resonated deeply with her. “It was important to me to be part of a community that celebrates diversity.”
In addition to her academic pursuits, Lizeth completed an internship at the Greater Chamber of Commerce last summer, where she worked on data entry and researched prospective members. The experience provided invaluable networking opportunities with San Antonio’s business leaders.
After graduation, Lizeth plans to transfer to the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) to study Business Analytics.
Congratulations Lizeth!
