About Sophia Solano

Where is your hometown?

I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas.

What is your educational background? (Degrees, University (include any community college attendance, transfer schools), Location, etc.)

I attended the University of Houston-Victoria and received my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (concentration in 4-8 generalist education).

I am obtaining my Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Louisiana State University. I will be finishing my degree in the summer of 2025.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in higher education?

A major influence of mine was being a work study at my UHV. I worked in the student success and student life department, and I found a strong passion for working with my colleagues, and learning more about how I can help others with their educational journey while having fun along the way.

Prior to higher education I was a classroom teacher for 3 years, and a tutor/teacher assistant for 3 years. I loved being a long-time learner and working with my students. I wanted to continue to be that resource for my students, which moved me then lead me into advising at the community college level.

Tell us a random fact about yourself.

I built my own personal computer and I relax by playing video games/PC games. I am by all means no expert IT specialist or pro-gamer, but I can tell you all about my favorite games that I play!
