About SAC
Supporting the Alamo Colleges District mission to empower our diverse communities for success, San Antonio College (SAC) has been a pillar of excellence for over 100 years. Founded in 1925, SAC is the oldest continually operating two-year college in Texas and one of the largest single-campus community colleges in the state and nation. SAC also serves the largest student veteran population in the state and has been honored multiple times with the Veteran Education Excellence Recognition Gold Award from the Texas Veterans Commission. The college provides high-quality education in the arts and sciences, as well as professional and technical fields, and is a leader in online learning. SAC also offers courses designed to help underprepared students build the skills needed to succeed in college and beyond.
In 2021, SAC earned the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, recognizing its leadership in student success and performance excellence. In 2025, SAC received the prestigious Seal of Excelencia recertification. As a cornerstone institution in San Antonio, the college is committed to supporting both the accomplished and the most vulnerable members of the community. Through strong academic programs and workforce partnerships, SAC helps students gain the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a competitive economy. For more than a century, the college has played a critical role in meeting regional workforce needs—each graduate strengthening the economic vitality and future of our community.
