Career Pathways Certificate Program

Enrollment for Spring is now open.

Our accelerated career pathway programs allow eligible adult learners to earn an industry-recognized certification in a high-demand industry. An application, orientation, and initial academic assessment are required before registration.  Each program starts with a 12-hour Career Exploration and Skills Enhancement (Career EASE) course.

Our program invests in you; in return, we ask that you invest your time and dedication to the program, ultimately leading to your success.

   

Eligibility Requirements

    • 18 years or older when applying for the program
    • Have a valid photo ID
    • Have not earned an associate degree or higher
    • Willing to take assessments related to barriers, academics, skills aptitude, and workplace readiness
    • Committed to completing the program
   

Your Commitments

  • Complete all enrollment steps – application, orientation, and initial academic assessment.
  • Complete a 12-hr. CareerEASE course prior to starting the technical portion of the career pathway program.
  • Be engaged in class and attend a minimum of 12 hours per week.
  • Regularly meet with your Success Coach (@ least monthly).
  • Complete 40 total hours of academic support once in the program.
  • Complete ongoing academic assessments.
  • Adjust personal and/or work schedule to attend scheduled classes.
  • Take the certification test after completing the program.

Medical Assistant

Earn a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CCMA). Medical assistants perform routine clinical and administrative duties under the direct supervision of a physician or other healthcare professionals. They perform a variety of administrative duties including, but not limited to, taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, collecting and preparing lab specimens, and assisting other medical professionals during diagnostic examinations. Human Resources Associate Professional

Earn an Associate Professional in Human Resources (aPHR) certification. This certificate consists of a series of modular courses designed for functions typically found in the contemporary HR department and capped off with an aPHR certification; the first-ever HR certification designed for professionals who are just beginning their HR career journey, as well as for non-HR managers who manage people. This certificate series of modular courses is designed for functions typically found in the contemporary HR department of small to mid-sized companies. The goal is to provide you with the practical information needed to perform the daily tasks required by today’s HR professionals. This program focuses on fundamental accounting concepts and their application to transaction analysis. 1. Submit an interest form – GET STARTED.

Complete an Interest Form, and we will follow up with you on your next steps and additional information that will assist you in making decisions to pursue your GED®  and other academic/career goals.

2. Watch the Application Prep Video.

Watch the Application Prep video, so you are prepared to complete your application and provide the required supporting documentation to verify your eligibility. You’ll also learn the many benefits of the program, the application process, and the required assessments.

3. Attend Smart Choice

Attending the Smart Choice session is a requirement to be eligible for our no-cost training options. You will complete your application, confirm your eligibility (required documents), meet with your Success Coach, and take the required assessments in this one-stop session.

Do I need a High School Diploma for Career Pathways training classes?

We require students to have a High School Diploma or GED for Career certifications

Do I need immunizations to enroll in the Medical Assistant class?

Yes, you do need immunization records to enroll in a Medical Assisting class. Shot records can be obtained through the City of San Antonio (for San Antonio residents) 

Required Immunizations are: 

  • Varicella 1st Dose and 2nd Dose 
  • Hepatitis B 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Dose 
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) 
  • Tuberculosis (TB) Test Results within 1 year 
What is academic support (lab)?

Academic Support (Lab) is aligned to the specific training based on the student’s education and skill level. This class includes reading, writing, English language arts, math, financial literacy, digital literacy such as Microsoft Office, and English as a Second Language as needed to help students prepare for college or a career. This class is scheduled as a separate class.

What is the cost to enroll in a class?

All trainings offered through Alamo Colleges Adult Education is at no cost to eligible participants

Are textbooks included?

Textbooks and supplies are included.

Why do I have to take initial and on-going academic assessments?

You must complete the required initial and ongoing academic assessments – these help us to, together, develop your individualized success plan, identify your educational gains, and celebrate your academic gains.

Can I get a professional Certificate?

The Career Pathways Training offered through Alamo Colleges Adult Education ends with an industry-recognized certification.

What is Career EASE?

Career EASE: Career Exploration and Skills E Career EASE is the second step (transition) to being successful in a technical training program. It is designed for students to review parts of Smart Choice, a requirement prior to this course, and realize the expectations and skills needed to complete college courses. This course allows students to explore the basic skills needed by contextualizing instruction to the technical area in which they intend to get a certification. In the Alamo Adult Education program of study, this course is the second part of the students’ preparatory phase of their technical training program.
