Advice for students considering the Alamo Colleges

Akouka: It’s intimidating at first, especially as a freshman student coming out of middle school. You’re going to take college classes and it’s definitely going to be hard and you have to find your groove and how you will do things. But after a while you’ll create bonds and friendships and everyone is super supportive at Northeast Lakeview College and at Judson Early College Academy.

Cervantes: Because I have been a part of the Alamo Colleges, it has allowed me to attend multiple events, to speak to local high school kids… It has allowed me to touch lives in a way that shows, “hey, college isn’t so intimidating and daunting and if you put in the work, it can open up great opportunities in your life.” Anytime I get the chance to speak about the Alamo Colleges and the TXFame program I am all for it. It has allowed me to network in positive ways.

How the Alamo Colleges has prepared our graduates for the future

Centeno: I think of the saying that it takes a large village to raise a child. I think it took a large community at Northwest Vista College to push me to where I needed to be and where I am today. I think a lot of it came down to communication with my professors when I came across challenges…. I remember if I needed them they were beyond helpful.

Aviado: I think the support here at the Alamo Colleges is amazing. I have been to a couple of other community colleges in my life and it’s nothing like being here.

Carrington-Brannon: I had work life balance going to school. The bachelor’s program is pretty impressive and I definitely learned a lot of leadership skills in the program.

How AlamoPROMISE is positioning one student for higher education

Nerio: AlamoPROMISE has opened so many doors for me… Without it, it was going to be very difficult for me. I wouldn’t be able to work here… It has opened me up to new communities and allowed me to make friends that are also AlamoPROMISE students
