ACD Welcomes New Board Trustee, Swears in Returning Trustees, and Elects New Officers

At a board meeting on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustees welcomed a new board trustee, swore in returning board trustees and elected new officers.

Gerald B. Lopez is the Alamo Colleges District's newest Board Trustee and will serve District 5. Lopez previously served as a board trustee for Northside Independent School District. Lopez graduated from Holy Cross High School and Our Lady of the Lake University. He served as Chief of Staff for City Councilman Ray Lopez from 2009 until 2017. Lopez is a small business owner.

In addition, District 6 Trustee Dr. Gene Sprague and District 7 Trustee Dr. Yvonne Katz were sworn in as returning board trustees. Both trustees will serve a six-year term.

District 8 Trustee Clint Kingsbery, who previously served as board vice chair, was elected board chair. 

District 1 Trustee Joe Alderete, Jr. is now vice chair. District 3 Trustee Anna U. Bustamante was voted in as secretary, and District 2 Trustee Gloria Ray was voted in as assistant secretary. Each officer will serve for two years.

Kingsbery is an Assistant Director of Testing and TSI at Texas A&M University - San Antonio. He previously taught mathematics for the Northside Independent School District and served students at several schools for over 13 years. With his multiple years of experience in the educational field, Kingsbery understands the needs of students planning to attend college. His experience in the classroom has given him insight into how to motivate students and enable them to work toward greater achievements in their educational careers. 

Alderete is an intergovernmental affairs consultant who advises on various city, county, and state-related issues. A lifelong resident of San Antonio, he has served his community in multiple capacities for 38 years. He served on the San Antonio City Council for eight years, 1977-1985, and has served on the boards of Catholic Charities, the San Antonio River Oversight Committee, Westside YMCA, Assumption Seminary, and the San Fernando Historic Civic Center Committee. 

Bustamante is a life-long resident of San Antonio and is a graduate of Southside High School. Bustamante holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Music and a Master of Science in Educational Administration, both from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. She has been an educator in the Southside ISD for the past 33 years and is currently a music teacher at Southside High School.

Ray retired from Kelly Air Force Base as a Senior Official after 27 years of service. She has since served her community as a volunteer on various governance boards at the city, county, and state levels.
