Registration for 2025 Academic School Year Programs
The Scobee Planetarium, Challenger Learning Center and Santikos Micronaut Center programs are aligned to the Texas TEKS for integration into teachers' regular curriculum requirements. Classroom teachers or curriculum leaders for schools will be required to complete a registration form with the approval of their administrators to secure program dates and times. The fees for these programs have been held constant through our ten years of operation and we have sought out funders to provide limited classroom scholarships to help students and teachers benefit from these unique experiences.
Classroom program scholarships:
A few SAWS scholarships for Micronaut missions are still available, if your K-3rd grade class is in a school that is a SAWS customer.
We have received the Najim Charitable Foundation scholarship for TEA qualified Title I schools to also obtain classroom funding for Challenger, Micronaut and Scobee planetarium program combinations. Our scheduling specialist, Lynn Linkes, can provide more information as your classes submit registrations. Title I schools receiving these scholarships must be from the following counties: Bexar, Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, or Wilson.
Updated 2024-25 registration forms and program descriptions will be available at that time for download through the related sections of this web site for the Scobee Planetarium, Challenger Learning Center, and Santikos Micronaut Center. Teachers, administrators, and district curriculum specialists may also email sac-scobeectr@alamo.edu or call 210-486-0100 for more information.
The teacher pre-mission workshop for the spring term is currently open for registration. If a teacher's class has been scheduled, s/he should go to https://tinyurl.com/ChallengerJan25 to register for the Saturday, January 18, 2025 session that runs from 9:00am to 2:30pm with 5.5 CPE's. Call Mariana Zoll if you have any questions.
Ticket Sales for the "Hearts on Mars" Valentine's Day Mission and Planetarium Show
On Monday, January 13, 2025, the tickets for the "Hearts on Mars" couple's mission package will go on sale.
For $130 per couple, they will receive a selection of heavy hors d'oeuvres, and beverages catered by Texas Sugar Daddies Catering. On Friday, February 14, 2025, couples will arrive at the center between 5:00 and 5:45 for a 6:00pm "launch" for their Martian explorations. Each couple will select 'job station' roles for the simulation in advance of their mission and work with the other members of the crew to explore the Martian surface and maintain a safe and fun other worldly experience. Upon their safe return, there will be reserved Scobee Planetarium seating for the 8:00pm Sky Tonight Live prsentation which will conclude by 9:00pm.
