What is the World Languages program? This program prepares you to engage and succeed in a global society with oral and written language skills in six languages, and an understanding of the cultures they represent. What will I learn? This program teaches you to communicate in oral and written form in Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, French, German or Italian. You’ll get instruction and practice in speaking, reading, writing and listening in your target language at a college level, following guidelines from the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). You’ll learn grammar and vocabulary to communicate up to an intermediate level. Authentic materials and contexts highlight key aspects of the target-language countries, helping you develop a better understanding of other cultures. |
What can I do with language study? This program will help you fulfill foreign-language requirements for transferring to a four-year university as a junior, where you can continue your education in your target language. You’ll also be prepared for professional and personal success in our increasingly interconnected world. A second language provides you with marketable skills that will increase your job opportunities, especially in fields including medicine, health care, education, translation, interpreting, foreign service, diplomacy, government, criminal justice/law, business, tourism, IT and many other areas. What is special about the program?Speaking two languages enhances cognitive skills, improves mental health and even increases salary. Our faculty possess extensive experience teaching languages, with specialized degrees from prestigious universities. World Language classes may be available online or face-to-face. |
