Duration: Jan 27 – April 28
Type of the Group: Open Group
Location: Student Advocacy Center, Room 113
The LGBTQIA+ has an amazing and unique community of people that come from all walks of life, yet exist under the same umbrella. This group will be a safe space for students who are out or questioning to meet others within their community to gather and discuss LGBTQIA+ issues, learn from one another, and tell their stories.
The Playground

Duration: Jan 26 – April 27
Hybrid: Both in-person & online
Type of the Group: Open Group
Location: Student Advocacy Center, Room 113
This group will allow students to bring something to play with (i.e. coloring books, playdoh, dolls, stuffed animals) while discussing the stresses in their life. There will also be discussions about how to connect to your inner child and heal them. This group is meant to help people understand why they react to stressors in a certain way and learn from one another how to soothe themselves when they encounter them.
Where the Neurodiverse Converse
Date/Time:
January 24th
February 7th and 21st
March 7th and 21st
April 4th and 18th
May 2nd
From 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Type of the Group: Closed Group
Location: Student Advocacy Center, Room 114
This support group is about bringing together those living with the challenges and strains of neurological differences in a safe therapeutic environment. Rather than being alone with a counselor, we offer the chance to meet others like you or facing similar situations in life to help support each other and grow from these interactions. With discussions being led by a therapist, we will encourage talks about the different types of neurodiversity, their challenges, and what ideas we can come up with to improve each other's quality of life.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Group
Date/Time: Mondays (2 p.m. – 3 p.m.)
Duration: Jan 31 – April 25
Type of the Group: Closed Group
Location: Student Advocacy Center, Room 114
“Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or “ACT” (pronounced as the word “act”, not the letters a-c-t) is a mindfulness-based behavioral therapy that focuses on psychological flexibility and valued engagement in life (Eddins, 2021).” The ACT group will focus on the following:
- Willingness to experience the full range of feelings, memories, and thoughts that we have on a daily basis, without attempting to get rid of or avoid those that we find difficult or uncomfortable
- Being able to make an honest evaluation of our actions and beliefs in order to determine how well they are working
- Coping skills as alternatives for avoiding or using substances
- Developing and participating in a social network
- Commitment to moving forward in our lives, in a direction determined by our individual values
This treatment is about living in a way that is rich, full, and vital, and that lines up with our values.
All students interested in participating in any groups should contact Dr. Aisha Woods at
