Civic Engagement

The Center for Civic Engagement is the umbrella for Service-Learning and Volunteer opportunities on the SAC campus. Are these different? you ask. They are!

Service-Learning

"Service-Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities." Source: www.servicelearning.org/what-service-learning

On the SAC campus, we have several professors who integrate a service-learning component within their course. There are also opportunities for students to propose an extra credit service-learning project to their instructor.

Volunteerism

Volunteering is a student's decision to give their time to perform a service without compensation.

The Center for Civic Engagement uses the on-line database Alamo Experience to keep track of and promote volunteer opportunities within the San Antonio non-profit community.
