Completed postcards can dropped off for mailing at the end of each event.
A Latina Herstory of Regulating Women’s Bodies
Professors Laura Oviedo and Jennifer Cain will present a brief history of the regulation of women’s bodies followed by the screening of award-winning PBS documentary “No Más Bebes.” The film shares the story of Mexican immigrant mothers in the 1960s-70s who were coerced into sterilization in the Los Angeles County – USC Medical Center. With a legal team led by a Chicana lawyer, Antonia Hernandez, the mothers sued medical and government institutions and their fight for reproductive justice made history in the 1975 civil rights lawsuit, Madrigal v. Quilligan.
