History was made this Fall semester as San Antonio College welcomed 22 students into the new bachelor’s in science nursing program, the first bachelor’s degree offering to be made available in the Alamo Colleges District.

SAC President Dr. Robert Vela, as well as members of the college executive team, met with the students as they started the school year. Dr. Vela highlighted their achievement as the first cohort to begin the new program. He challenged them to meet the high expectations they will face in the year ahead. He also promised that SAC would assist them in any way possible should the students need help, whether it be academic or financial.

He then presented each student with a stethoscope trimmed in SAC red and engraved with the phrase “SAC Proud.”

“This is a major milestone for us,” Dr. Vela said. “The RN to BSN will further enhance SAC’s reputation as a leader in nursing education and help us to be even more intentional in our mission to serve the San Antonio community.”

Founded in 1967, SAC’s nursing program is the largest in San Antonio, offering students a two-year course of study to earn an associate of applied science degree in nursing.
