January 10, 2022

San Antonio College’s Computer Information Systems (CIS) program has been selected by U.S. Cyber Command (CYBERCOM) to collaborate in a new program to share the latest information on cybersecurity and educational resources.

The Academic Engagement Network (AEN) will connect CYBERCOM with 84 colleges and universities, including SAC, from across the nation.

“Cyber Command’s goal for the AEN is to strengthen our relationships and communication with these participating institutions,” said CYBERCOM’s Executive Director David Frederick. “This will improve and sustain our efforts to meet cyberspace educational requirements and workforce needs.”

"As a department, we will be able to collaborate with other schools and military commands to increase our cyber knowledge and for sponsored capstone mentorships for our San Antonio College CIS students,” said Kim Muschalek, professor and program coordinator for CIS – Cybersecurity.

“Students will also be able to benefit from CYBERCOM enterprise-wide internship, fellowship, and recruiting programs. We are extremely excited to be included in this new engagement network along with some of the top community colleges and universities across the country," she added.

The new network will help CYBERCOM and the colleges bolster future cybersecurity workforce needs as well as collaborate on applied cyber research, applied analytics, and strategic issues.

Plans for the partnership will include monthly events and engagements with CYBERCOM staff, internship and fellowship opportunities, and recruiting programs.
