Peer-Mentoring Program

Students visiting the STEM Academic Centers have the wonderful opportunity to receive one-on-one support and help as they chart their academic course while attending San Antonio College from a peer mentor. Students are encouraged to meet at least twice a month with the peer mentor to establish an ideal partnership. Peer mentors play an integral role in helping community college students make the transition to a four-year institution to complete their degree. At the STEM Academic Centers, peer mentors are dedicated to ensuring our students have access to the tools and resources that will assist them in making the transition.

Students are encouraged to reach out to peer mentors and develop a relationship with them. The peer mentors assist students with a myriad of opportunities that include:

  • Academic planning
  • Resource identification
  • Professional development
  • Conference preparation
  • Presentation skills
  • Resume-building
  • Undergraduate research
  • Scholarships
  • Internships

The peer mentors facilitate numerous workshops to help students chart their course and prepare for conferences, scholarship applications, etc. Some of the workshops include the following:

  • LinkedIn
  • Resumes
  • Interviewing Techniques
  • Business Card Creation
  • E-portfolios
  • Internships
  • Scholarships
  • Letters of Recommendation
