SAC welcomes two new academic chairs before the 2023-24 year

San Antonio College has named Alaina Webb and Lisa Coronado as two new academic chairs to direct several academic programs on campus.

Alaina Webb web.jpgWebb is the new chair of American Sign Language and interpreter training, English as a second language, international studies, world languages, and philosophy. Previously, she was a full-time instructor and coordinator the the ASL and interpreter training program. Additionally, she has worked as a sign language interpreter in various settings for 35 years.

Webb has served as both chair and member of the Texas Health and Human Services Board for Evaluation of Interpreters. She also teaches workshops and trains interpreters across the United States.

Webb earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas Women’s University and a Master of Arts in applied linguistics from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. She holds a Master, Court, and Level IV certification from the Texas Board for Evaluation of Interpreters and an NIC Advanced certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.

Coronado will helm early childhood studies, social work, sociology, history, and Mexican American studies.

Lisa Coronado web.jpgBefore coming to SAC, she served as the interim chair for English, world languages, and Integrated Reading and Writing at Palo Alto College. In addition to being an assistant professor of English, she was also lead instructor for English Composition and Developmental English, as well as Faculty Senate president and program coordinator for the Ascender Program.

Coronado has been honored for Excellence in Teaching from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development and from the National Society of Leadership and Success.

Coronado earned an Associate of Arts in English from St. Philip’s College, a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and a Master of Arts in English with a concentration in language and literature from Our Lady of the Lake University.
